RE-COVERY MASH is highly palatable, versatile and convenient to use in many different situations. It contains a blend of ’Super-Fibres’, known for their superior digestibility and provision of non-heating calories, helping to support optimal fibre intake.

A source of electrolytes is included to maintain optimum hydration and thirst response after exertion, training and travelling, as well as during the change of season when temperatures may affect the horse's water intake. High levels of vitamin E help to support immune and muscle function and the live yeast aids optimal hindgut health. RE-COVERY MASH can also be used during periods of convalescing to mask medication and to support wellbeing. RE-COVERY MASH is a tasty high fibre feed which can be fed as and when needed.

DO NOT FEED DRY

If being fed to performance horse Saracen RE-COVERY MASH can be fed up to 3kg per day as part of an electrolyte replenishment programme. We always recommend that advice should be sought when determining optimum electrolyte supplementation programmes.

This product is designed to be soaked at a ratio of 1 part feed: 2 parts water or to the desired consistency i.e. add 1 litre of water to 500g of RE-COVERY MASH.

INTERNATIONAL INFORMATION

RE-COVERY MASH has been flavoured with an encapsulated banana flavour to entice fussy feeders. Encapsulation means that the flavour is protected and released through the physical process of chewing. Encapsulation is more beneficial than essences and oils as they both tend to lose taste and aroma very quickly.

RE-COVERY MASH contains a live yeast culture which has been shown to increase microbial activity. Saccharomyces cerevisiae supports efficient fibre digestion leading to improved feed and forage utilisation.

Beet pulp is a highly digestible fibre source which supports beneficial fibrolytic hindgut bacteria and therefore has a ‘prebiotic effect’ on the hindgut microbes (Moore-Colyer et al., 2002). Microbial fermentation of beet pulp leads to the production of volatile fatty acids, and through this Butyrate (butyric acid) is produced. Current studies are investigating the effect of butyric acid on gut health and wall cell stability. It is thought that butyrate can reduce inflammation and improve intestinal permeability (Stewart et al., 2017). Pectin (naturally occurring in beet pulp) helps to support the generation of mucus secretions which line the gut wall and act as a barrier to microbial adhesion. Pectin forms a gel like substance when exposed to acidic conditions (i.e. within the stomach) and can protect the lining of the gastrointestinal tract (Zavoshti and Andrews, 2017).

Muscle glycogen replenishment is a complex task; however, research has indicated that rehydration and supplementation with electrolytes is beneficial to this process (Lindinger & Waller, 2010). Using RE-COVERY MASH after exercise will aid in optimal hydration and encourage thirst response. Barley is also included within RE-COVERY MASH to aid in muscle glycogen replenishment. Feeding RE-COVERY MASH 1-3 hours post exercise will help to prevent further depletion of muscle glycogen stores (Kentucky Equine Research, 1995).

HOW QUICKLY DOES IT SOAK?

RE-COVERY MASH soaks in 2-3 minutes when using warm water and 5 minutes in cold water.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I FEED IT?

This product can be fed to any horse to aid in Re-Hydration and Re-Covery. The quantity fed can be split into small meals throughout the day.

HOW MUCH SHOULD I FEED?

Feed up to a maximum of 3kg per day. Please note that higher intakes may reduce your horses appetite for their hard feed, therefore reduce the amount of RE-COVERY MASH that is fed if this occurs.

CAN I FEED THIS TO MY HORSE WITH ULCERS?

RE-COVERY MASH contains 10% starch and 6% sugar and is suitable for horses prone to digestive upset when fed in small quantities. The guidelines state that when managing a horse with digestive issues, not more than 2g of starch per 1kg of bodyweight. For an average 500kg horse, you would be looking to keep the starch content below 1kg per day. When feeding 500g of RE-COVERY MASH, this will provide 50g of starch, however, it will be important to take into account the starch content of the horses current feed as well.

HOW SOON AFTER COMPETING SHOULD I FEED THIS?

RE-COVERY MASH can be fed as soon as your horse has adequately cooled down after work. Optimum feeding time is 1-3 hours after work as uptake of nutrients is increased during this time.

WILL THIS AFFECT MY HORSES NORMAL FEED?

RE-COVERY MASH is designed to complement your horses normal ration. It is un-fortified and therefore will not cause an imbalance in the diet.

CAN I FEED IT EVERY DAY AT A COMPETITION?

Yes, RE-COVERY MASH can fed every day at a competition.

CAN I FEED IT DRY?

No, this product is designed to be fed as a mash to aid in Re-Hydration.

HOW WET SHOULD IT BE?

We recommend soaking 1 part feed to 2 parts water, however, this product can be made to the desired consistency and can be fed with more than 2 parts water.

THE FEED CONTAINS BARLEY, WILL IT HEAT MY HORSE UP?

Barley is included in this product to aid in muscle glycogen Re-Plenishment and due to the low inclusion, it is unlikely to encourage fizzy, excitable behaviours.

CAN I FEED TO MY HORSE THAT TIES UP?

Muscle issues such as tying-up are usually multifactorial, and dehydration can be a trigger. RE-COVERY MASH will help to ensure optimal hydration which is important to horses that suffer from muscle issues and will help to provide electrolytes that are important for muscle function.

MY HORSE HARDLY DRINKS ANY WATER, WILL THIS HELP?

As RE-COVERY MASH is designed to be fed as a soaked product, this will help to increase your horses water intake. The inclusion of electrolytes in RE-COVERY MASH will also help to stimulate the thirst response in your horse, encouraging them to drink more.
